Receive a purchase order
Check in material against a purchase order, record what arrived, and post it into inventory.
Receiving is the inbound door. You record what physically arrived against a purchase order, and posting the receipt puts the stock into inventory and queues it for putaway.
Receive against a PO
- Go to Warehouse > Receiving. The list shows receipts that are still open.
- Open the receipt for the purchase order you are checking in.
- For each line, enter the received quantity, the rejected quantity if any was bad, and the location the stock should land in (often a receiving dock or QC hold).
- Choose how to finish:
- Save partial records progress and keeps the receipt open, for when more is still expected.
- Post receipt completes it.
What posting does
When you post the receipt:
- A receipt transaction posts the received quantity into the chosen location, so it shows in inventory.
- A putaway task is created so the stock can be moved from the dock to its storage location. See Put away stock.
- If the item requires inspection, a quality inspection is created.
- The vendor bill flows to accounts payable.
Purchase order -> Receive (enter qty + location) -> Post -> stock in + putaway task
Where to go next
- Move received stock to its home in Put away stock.
- For receipt and task states, see Transfer, count, and task statuses.
- See where the order came from in Purchasing.
