Pick and ship an order
Pick a released order's lines, then ship the shipment with a carrier and tracking.
Fulfillment is the outbound door. A released sales order becomes a shipment you pick, then ship to the customer. Picking gathers the goods; shipping sends them and posts the stock out of inventory.
Pick the order
- Go to Warehouse > Fulfillment. The list shows shipments and orders waiting to be picked.
- Open the order to its pick sheet.
- For each line, record the quantity picked, and the location (and lot, if the item is lot-tracked) you picked from.
- When every line is satisfied, complete the pick. The shipment moves to Picked and is ready to ship.
Ship it
- Open the shipment (from Warehouse > Shipments).
- While it is still editable, set the carrier and service level, the tracking number, ship date, weight, and dimensions. See Manage carriers.
- Select Mark shipped. This posts an issue transaction that removes the goods from inventory, records the carrier and tracking, and locks the shipment.
- When the carrier confirms arrival, Mark delivered.
Released order -> Pick (record qty + location) -> Picked -> Mark shipped -> Shipped -> Delivered
Marking a shipment shipped is what relieves the stock; up to that point the goods are only picked, not yet issued.
Where to go next
- For every shipment state and the moves between them, see Shipment statuses.
- Set up who you ship with in Manage carriers.
- See where the order is billed in Accounting.
