Demand Planning Software
Demand forecasting that connects to your BOMs, inventory, and production schedule. Move off spreadsheets and plan against what your shop floor can actually deliver.
Planners forecast in one spreadsheet, purchasing buys off a stale export, and the shop floor finds out about the shortage when a long-lead component fails to show. WorkCell turns historical shipments into a statistical forecast, explodes it through your BOM, and feeds one approved S&OP plan into scheduling and purchasing.
Forecast Lives in a Different Universe Than Execution
Sales builds a demand plan in one spreadsheet, purchasing buys off another, and the scheduler ignores both and runs off work orders while MAPE quietly climbs.
Material Shortages Found Too Late to Fix
Without real demand forecasting software tying signals to the BOM, planners catch component gaps after production is already delayed and long-lead items are 10 weeks out.
Excel Breaks Under Real Manufacturing Planning
Seven tabs, four planners, eleven copies on the shared drive, and one broken link puts the whole forecast and demand plan a month off by Friday.
Statistical Forecasting
Generate baselines from shipment history using moving averages, exponential smoothing, and seasonality models, then apply classic demand forecasting techniques at the SKU, customer, or family level.
BOM-Level Demand Explosion
Every finished-goods forecast explodes through the multi-level BOM into dependent demand so purchasing sees the actual buy quantities instead of just the top-level number.
Scenario Planning
Model a 20% upside, a lost customer, or a supplier delay as side-by-side plans and compare capacity load, material needs, and cash impact before committing.
Collaborative S&OP
Sales, operations, and finance work from one demand plan with version control, comments, and approvals so forecasting and demand planning stop living in email threads.

Scheduling
Approved demand plans feed directly into master production scheduling so work orders release against real forecast commitments, not guesses.
Purchasing
BOM-exploded demand becomes time-phased buy requirements so buyers act on long-lead components weeks before the shop floor needs them.
Inventory
On-hand and on-order quantities net against forecasted demand in real time so planners see actual coverage instead of raw requirements.
What's the difference between demand planning and demand forecasting?
Forecasting is the math that predicts future demand from history. Demand planning is the full loop of generating that forecast, reviewing it with sales and operations, exploding it through the BOM, and committing one plan to purchasing and scheduling.
I already have MRP. Do I need demand forecasting software?
MRP calculates what to buy and make from demand you hand it, but it doesn't generate that demand. Most shops feed MRP an Excel file, which is where version drift and missed signals start, so demand planning replaces the spreadsheet upstream of MRP.
What forecast accuracy should I expect from production planning and control?
High-volume repeat products often hit 80-90% MAPE at the item level, while engineer-to-order work runs much lower and should be planned at the family or capacity level. The goal is catching MAD errors early enough to act, not chasing perfect accuracy.
