Manage shifts
Define the recurring shift patterns the schedule is built from, with their times, days, staffing, and position.
A shift is a recurring working pattern: a start and end time, the days it runs, how many people it needs, and the position it is for. Shifts are the templates the schedule is built from. The schedule turns a shift into dated assignments for specific people.
Create a shift
- Go to Workforce > Shifts and select New shift.
- Enter a name and an optional description, and pick a color.
- Set the start time and end time. If the shift crosses midnight, mark it overnight.
- Choose the days of week it runs and set staff required (how many people are needed each day).
- Optionally tie it to a position and a site, and set an effective from and effective until window. Save.
Edit and retire
- Open a shift to change its times, days, staffing, or position.
- Set a shift inactive to stop it being scheduled without deleting it; auto-scheduling skips inactive shifts.
- A shift cannot be deleted while it still has assignments. Remove its assignments first.
