Fulfill an order

Track an order from released through picked and shipped, including backorders for lines that ship short.

Fulfillment is the physical side of an order: picking the items, shipping them, and recording what went out. A released order shows its fulfillment progress so you always know how much is left to ship.

The fulfillment queue

Sales > Fulfillment lists released orders with outstanding lines. Each order shows its fulfillment status:

  • Unfulfilled - nothing has shipped yet.
  • Partially fulfilled - some quantity has shipped, more is outstanding.
  • Fulfilled - every line has shipped in full.

This status is maintained automatically as shipments are recorded against the order; you do not set it by hand.

Ship an order

The picking, packing, and shipment-recording steps happen in the Warehouse section, where you pick the order, assign a carrier, and record the shipment. As each shipment posts, the order's fulfillment status and per-line shipped quantities update here.

Open an order and look at its shipment progress to see shipped versus ordered quantity per line.

Backorders

When a line ships short (you shipped fewer than ordered because stock ran out), the remaining quantity becomes a backorder. The Sales > Backorders view lists every line still owed across all orders, so you can chase supply and ship the balance when stock arrives.

After it ships

Shipping does not bill the customer on its own. Once goods are out the door, invoice the order for what shipped. An order that is fully shipped and fully invoiced can be completed and closed; see Order statuses.
